About Jodi
I’ve owned Murco Recycling, a reuse firm, for 21 years. I’ve won several awards including inducted into the Environmental hall of Fame, Governors Pollution prevention Award, Outstanding Recycler from Illinois Recycling Association. I’ve even been the subject of TV series on Planet Green called Total Wrecklamation regarding my family owned & operated business.
Truth be known, I am an accidental advocate. I didn’t start this company to save the world, only to save my world. I stumbled upon my career because I had a first home that still makes me vomit thinking about it and no money to fix it up with. All the energy, none of the dough. After several years developing my unique style of material dispersement, my focus shifted away from my own world– which was totally revamped with used materials and lots of sweat– to the greater need and greater good of reuse.
Both personally and professionally, I’m a reuse junkie. I haven’t clothes shopped “retail” in years. The reason is simple… it’s the thrill of the hunt, the adventure of acquisition, and the coo in the cool. Take thrift store shopping for clothes– anyone can look like a millionaire if you spend a million dollars. But if you spend $25 and look like a million bucks… now that’s an accomplishment.
I passionately defend the greater good of reuse and am using this blog to air my thoughts on an industry I’ve spent 22 years helping to create. And I must say, we’ve come a long way baby!
Razing buildings, raising money, & raising hell!

I love what you’re doing Jodi: I can’t believe you’ve been doing it 21 years. I haven’t been to one of your auctions yet but hope to in the near future. Keep fighting the good fight.
Thanks Doll! I can’t tell you how gratifying it is to hear your supportive comments. I’m a one woman operation. I talk to myself incessantly (surprisingly, I’m always right!) but it’s really nice to hear it from someone who doesn’t share my name!
Thanks for taking the time. Now, quit lurking the site, come to an auction and put your money where your mouth is!
Best,
Jodi
